Hot 8 Brass Band: Big Tuba Tour
This Event is 21 and Up Drawing on the traditional jazz heritage of their hometown of New Orleans, the Hot 8 Brass Band are renowned for including elements of funk, hip hop, rap, and its local variation, “bounce” in their music. The collective earned a win in the 64th Annual Grammy Awards 2022 for their feature on John Batiste’s ‘Album of The Year’, following the nomination of their ‘The Life & Times Of…’ LP for ‘Best Regional Roots Album’ in 2013. Transcending genres and trends, Hot 8 have performed and collaborated with the likes of Jon Batiste, Blind Boys of Alabama, Basement Jaxx and Alice Russell, and provided live support for Mos Def, Lauryn Hill and Mary J Blige. Since forming they have established a decade-long affiliation with actor/BBC 6Music DJ Craig Charles, among other tastemakers, DJs and journalists worldwide. After a festive appearance Live at Maida Vale for Lauren Laverne (BBC 6 Music), the Hot 8 Brass Band performed for Jools Holland’s annual Hootenanny on BBC Two to welcome in 2019. Later that year, after taking to the stage at the BRIT awards in February, Hot 8 Brass Band were invited on the European leg of George Ezra’s tour. This Event is All Ages Cornelia’s Murr’s newest album began with a question: What do I want? The answer is everything, and it’s never felt more urgent.On her first LP in six years, Run To The Center, out February 28, 2025 on 22Twenty, the London-born singer-songwriter delivers her most confident, expansive album yet. Across 10 hypnotic pop songs is a fully realized portrait of a woman and an artist in her thirties, standing triumphantly in uncertainties, asking the crucial questions one needs to sustain a life: How can you fit everything you want into a life? How can you do this if you want so much?Run To The Center, which Murr will tour internationally next year, is her first release since her self-produced, six-track EP Corridor in 2022 and her first LP since her 2018 debut Lake Tear of the Clouds, produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket. For years, Murr tried to make another LP, but extraneous forces kept getting in the way, whether economic or global.But in the spring of 2023, Murr started working with prolific producer Luke Temple (Adrienne Lenker, Hand Habits), adding to her impressive list of collaborators, which includes Rodrigo Amarante, Alice Boman, Reverend Baron, and Oracle Sisters among many others. Temple was an old friend whom she had met in New York more than a decade prior. Finally, forces coalesced for them to work together. His debut album, Not Holding Back!, on the highly regarded Little Village label, was digitally released late last year, with the CD and vinyl available now in January. Produced at Greaseland Studios by Rick Estin and Kid Andersen, eight confident originals bolster his meaningful choices in these fifteen songs. With contributions from some of the heaviest of modern blues stars with whom Kyle has learned from and worked with since he was a teen, this is a perfect rite of passage. The legendary Nightcat Rick Estrin writes” I first met Kyle Rowland, when he was 10 years old and his father brought him to my house for a harmonica lesson. Even way back then, his enormous sound and the utter ferocity of his attack were startling.
