Giuda
This Event is All Ages Giuda were formed in Rome in 2007 by lead vocalist Tenda and guitarist Lorenzo. Both had been members of the noted Italian punk band Taxi, but after the unexpected death of their drummer Francesco, that group split up. Several months later, Tenda and Lorenzo felt ready to make music again, but decided to start a new project; teaming with onetime Taxi bassist Danilo, and new members Michele on guitar and Daniele on drums, the band adopted the name Giuda (Italian for Judas) and began playing gigs. Embracing a sporty look (the bandmembers often reference their passion for football) and a sound that paid clear homage to the commercial end of British glam rock of the ’70s, Giuda soon developed a live following and released their first album, Racey Roller, in early 2010, packaged in a cleverly designed sleeve that looked like a vintage glam LP rescued from a junk shop. Giuda supported the album with heavy touring in Europe, the U.K., and the United States, making plenty of new friends along the way. Noted glam rock fan Joe Elliott of Def Leppard praised the band, saying, “When I heard Racey Roller, I was p—ing my pants laughing, because it’s so brilliant, so exhilarating and fun.” In 2013, Giuda released their second album, Let’s Do It Again, featuring “Hold Me Tight” and “Wild Tiger Woman.” They followed that with another collection of glammy stompers and sweaty rock fun on their third album, Speaks Evil, in late 2015. Over the next few years Giuda focused on releasing a series of singles including 2017’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Music” and a 2018 cover of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s All Right for Fighting.” They resurfaced with their fourth full-length, E.V.A., in April 2019, this time via California’s Burger Records. WAND
This Event is All Ages In late 2013ish Los Angeles California, Wand formed up and got right on it, playing, writing & plotting a path forward – a not-undifficult task for a special new band come to life in the twenty-teens and audaciously self-identifying as “Wand”. The original group – Cory Hanson (guitar, vocals), Lee Landey (bass), Evan Burrows (drums) and Daniel Martens (guitar) – recorded Ganglion Reef before too long and attracted the attentions of GOD? Records, In the Red and Drag City all at once. When the smoke cleared on all the pandammit action, Lee and Sofia had decided it was time to get on beyond Wand, something the other three were still dedicated to doing while remaining in the band. Ayund… clock on the wall said it was time for another album, as it was suddenly a few years since Laughing Matter. That’s when Vertigo set in. Robbie began to record the new stuff at his place. The new Wand directive: recording only, no writing. That would come later. Surely the next great Wand album was somewhere at this end of this rainbow? Yep – by late 2023, all of it had boiled down to album-size, and Vertigo was soon slated for release on July 26, 2024. In the process, Wand had grown an extra hand – or more accurately, become a quartet again, with the addition of Evan Backer (known as Evan Too, for those keeping track). And what ho, more dates had been scheduled and played, and more scheduled. For the earth is round and we must continue in orbit. For Wand, this means North America in the summer and Europe in the fall, with Mars TBA. What next, man? CANCELED: SPRINTS
This Event is All Ages The foundations for Sprints were laid when Karla met guitarist Colm O’Reilly and drummer Jack Callan — childhood friends who’d been playing music together since the age of 10. Recruiting bassist Sam McCann to complete the line-up, the quartet found their sound after seeing Savages play Electric Picnic in 2016. Singer, guitarist and lead-songwriter Karla Chubb has never shied away from confronting inner turmoil. Born in Dublin, she spent a portion of her early childhood in Germany, initially turning to music as a consequence of feeling out-of-step with the world. “I lived in a constant state of existential crisis,” she recalls. “Music became an outlet for emotion, and a way for me to understand myself and society.” The dedication for Sprints’ debut album serves as a neat summation of their story so far. Transforming pain into truth, passion into purpose and perseverance into strength, the Dublin four-piece have steadily grown in stature over the last three years, sharing two acclaimed EPs and building a fearsome live reputation opening for the likes of Yard Act and Suede. Letter To Self is the sound of Sprints co levelling up once again, revisiting their most vulnerable moments and imbuing their visceral garage-punk with a palpable sense of catharsis that we can all benefit from. Allah-Las
This Event is All Ages For the last 15 years, Allah-Las have alchemically melded surf rock washes with folk rock jangle and rock, building up their lauded music podcast, Reverberation Radio, and record label, Calico Discos, in the process. But a lot has changed since Matthew Correia (drums/vocals), Spencer Dunham (bass, guitar, vocals), Miles Michaud (guitar, organ, vocals), and Pedrum Siadatian (guitar, synth, vocals) first bonded over psych rock vinyl in the back room at Amoeba Records in the late aughts. Zuma 85 finds the quartet facing a new world with a wealth of new sounds, drawing from an eclectic mix of progressive rock, prog, kosmische, and Eno-esque art rock, scuzzy Royal Trux riffs, and detouring into tones and textures that call to mind ‘90s and 2000s pop.
