Blues & Bourbon: John Primer/Bob Corritore All Star Blues Band

etix Blues 1422931726063037

This Event is All Ages  “Both men are modern day legends who have invested their lives into playing take-no-mess Chicago blues that honor the lives of blues giants from decades past while also breathing new life into this important American cultural institution.”                                                                                                                                                                       – – Mike O’Cull, Muck Rack It’s getting increasingly harder to hear traditional, real deal blues these days, but fortunately lifelong blues purists, John Primer and Bob Corritore bring us their fourth collaborative effort with Crawlin’ Kingsnake. Blues Hall of Famer Primer, fresh off his recent Grammy nomination for Tears for Magic Slim, continues to tour relentlessly with his Real Deal Blues Band and along with Lurrie Bell and Billy Flynn, is one of the few remaining traditional Chicago blues guitarists. Primer has the pedigree too; having played with Muddy until his death in 1983, preceded by Willie Dixon and followed by a long stint with Magic Slim. Corritore wears many hats. He grew up in Chicago but has lived in Phoenix for three decades now. He is the proprietor of that city’s most famous blues club, The Rhythm Room. As such, he jams and collaborates with many blues artists. You’ll find Bob’s name on multiple albums because he is one of the top traditional harp players and maybe even more importantly, because he has no problem leaving his ego at the door. Corritore’s acclaimed releases have been nominated or winners of major blues awards. He is also a record producer, radio show host, arts foundation founder, and occasional writer. Blues & Bourbon: Terry Hanck

etix Blues 723641722424165

This Event is All Ages    “Exciting, tenor sax-driven blues and soul. This Chicago native, now based in South Florida, is steeped in those genre’s traditions as a musician, singer and songwriter Hanck’s choice of material and his presentation are impeccable. He starts this album with Elvin Bishop’s “Right Now is the Hour,” and he does it proud. The slow burn of “T’s Groove” is hot enough to cook a thick steak on. Vocally, Hanck drips 1950s soul on the first half of “My Last Teardrop,” then punches it into overdrive. If soul/blues is your bag, grab this.”-Bob Gottlieb, Elmore Magazine   Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing. No Refunds.

Blues & Bourbon: Johnny Burgin

etix Blues 492031721058834

This Event is All Ages    Johnny had a bang-up year in ’23, earning a BMA Nomination for Best Traditional Blues Artist and playing 200 dates across the US, Mexico, Japan and Europe.  But if you’d told him this would be his career when he was in High School,  he wouldn’t have believed you.  Johnny grew up in Mississippi and South Carolina and went to University of Chicago with the intention of becoming a writer.  When a friend took him out to a West Side ghetto club to hear the blues singer TailDragger, it was a conversion moment.  The blues came to life for Johnny and he fell headfirst into the vibrant Chicago blues scene.  Choosing the blues clubs over the library, Johnny eagerly absorbed the lessons from the blues masters who practiced their craft nightly.  By persistence and practice, Johnny gained a spot in Tail Dragger, and started gigging and recording with  traditional blues veterans like Sam Lay, Billy Boy Arnold, and Pinetop Perkins.   By the late 90s, Johnny was working regularly in Chicagoland blues clubs under his own name.  Johnny started a Monday night residency at The Smoke Daddy in Wicker Park, featuring vocalist Jimmy Burns.  The band featured other future blues notables who were also at the beginning of their careers, such as Kenny Smith on drums and Martin Lang on harp, and they created quite a buzz.  They packed the club every Monday with a younger, hip crowd, as well as blues veterans stopping by to sit in such as Dave Meyers, Jesse Fortune, Barkin’ Bill, etc.  Their success led to a record deal with Delmark and the first of several European tours.   Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing. “Songs That Changed Our Lives”

etix Songs 482251721753837

This Event is All Ages    This show is a seated  “supper club-styled” show (no dance floor) with four powerful women singers! Each singer will be doing favorite songs from many decades. R&B, soul and blues songs you most likely know from those cruisin’ in your car FM radio days, your “hangin’ out in record store days” Summer songs. Those and many more are the favorites you will be hearing live at the special summer Sacramento Blues Society celebrating our 45th Anniversary. “Songs That Changed Our Lives” stars Chrissie O’Dell, Dana Moret, Pinkie Rideau, and Tia Carroll  We asked these entertainers to choose songs that were important to them from each of the decades the SBS has been in existence. It’s our way of giving a visceral nod to all the years—the 1970s, the 1980s, the 1990s, the 2000s, the 2010s, and now, the 2020s. So many blues and roots music lovers worked hard to make the SBS emerge, last and still be going strong 45 years later in 2024.    Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing. Blues & Bourbon: Eddie 9V

etix Blues 481101719906026

This Event is All Ages    All his life, Eddie 9V (9-volt) has acted on instinct. Aged just 15, this old-soul artist turned away from the path of  college and jobs to burst all guns blazing onto the roots and blues club circuit of his native Atlanta, Georgia. Flash forward to 2019, and for his debut album, Left My Soul In Memphis, the prodigious multi-instrumentalist simply  powered up the amps in his mobile trailer and with his brother/co-writer/producer, Lane Kelly, laid down one of  the year’s breakout releases, acclaimed as “fresh and life-affirming” by Rock & Blues Muse. “Memphis was a total side project,” shrugs Eddie, “that ended up taking off.”   With Little Black Flies, there’s a sense of an artist coming full circle: the kid who once loitered outside the clubs of  Atlanta now leading Georgia’s greatest players into the studio. Certainly, these recordings gave much-needed  catharsis to the musicians who created them. But perhaps Eddie’s ultimate aim is to pass that spirit on to everyone  who hears the record. “It makes my day to please someone after they work all day,” he says. “My job is to make  them smile and let the music make them forget – or remember.”       Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing.
