Glitterer

This Event is All Ages Washington, D.C. resident and northeastern Pennsylvania native Ned Russin co-fronted Title Fight for many years before the band suspended operations and Ned became Glitterer. Actually, he had always been Glitterer, just as Glitterer had always been him, but there were no Glitterer records until 2017, when the first of two self-released EPs appeared. Those were odd, charming, clever, eloquent, and highly proficient records, hand-made in the spartan bedroom-pop mode: some programmed drums and keyboards with an electric bass and a voice. The songs were about the trap of self-awareness and the impossible dream of self-negation; and despite their being, combined, all of about 18 minutes long, they left long-lasting impressions, stuck themselves in peoples’ heads and stayed put. They attracted a good amount of attention, too, because, yes, many music fans and “industry observers” knew who Ned was. But there was nevertheless a lower-stakes air around the project in those earlier days — something interesting and inchoate that Ned was fiddling with. Giuda

etix Giuda1719906186 479581719906187

This Event is All Ages   Giuda were formed in Rome in 2007 by lead vocalist Tenda and guitarist Lorenzo. Both had been members of the noted Italian punk band Taxi, but after the unexpected death of their drummer Francesco, that group split up. Several months later, Tenda and Lorenzo felt ready to make music again, but decided to start a new project; teaming with onetime Taxi bassist Danilo, and new members Michele on guitar and Daniele on drums, the band adopted the name Giuda (Italian for Judas) and began playing gigs. Embracing a sporty look (the bandmembers often reference their passion for football) and a sound that paid clear homage to the commercial end of British glam rock of the ’70s, Giuda soon developed a live following and released their first album, Racey Roller, in early 2010, packaged in a cleverly designed sleeve that looked like a vintage glam LP rescued from a junk shop. Giuda supported the album with heavy touring in Europe, the U.K., and the United States, making plenty of new friends along the way. Noted glam rock fan Joe Elliott of Def Leppard praised the band, saying, “When I heard Racey Roller, I was p—ing my pants laughing, because it’s so brilliant, so exhilarating and fun.” In 2013, Giuda released their second album, Let’s Do It Again, featuring “Hold Me Tight” and “Wild Tiger Woman.” They followed that with another collection of glammy stompers and sweaty rock fun on their third album, Speaks Evil, in late 2015. Over the next few years Giuda focused on releasing a series of singles including 2017’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Music” and a 2018 cover of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s All Right for Fighting.” They resurfaced with their fourth full-length, E.V.A., in April 2019, this time via California’s Burger Records.   Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing. CANCELED: SPRINTS

etix SPRINTS1719906225 479211719906225

This Event is All Ages The foundations for Sprints were laid when Karla met guitarist Colm O’Reilly and drummer Jack Callan — childhood friends who’d been playing music together since the age of 10. Recruiting bassist Sam McCann to complete the line-up, the quartet found their sound after seeing Savages play Electric Picnic in 2016.  Singer, guitarist and lead-songwriter Karla Chubb has never shied away from confronting inner turmoil. Born in Dublin, she spent a portion of her early childhood in Germany, initially turning to music as a consequence of feeling out-of-step with the world. “I lived in a constant state of existential crisis,” she recalls. “Music became an outlet for emotion, and a way for me to understand myself and society.” The dedication for Sprints’ debut album serves as a neat summation of their story so far. Transforming pain into truth, passion into purpose and perseverance into strength, the Dublin four-piece have steadily grown in stature over the last three years, sharing two acclaimed EPs and building a fearsome live reputation opening for the likes of Yard Act and Suede. Letter To Self is the sound of Sprints co levelling up once again, revisiting their most vulnerable moments and imbuing their visceral garage-punk with a palpable sense of catharsis that we can all benefit from. The Polyphonic Spree

etix The 477291719906046

This Event is All Ages The Polyphonic Spree began in 2000. Since then they have traversed the globe several times over (including appearances at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, Oscar de la Renta Fashion Week Runway Show, MTV Video Music Awards, Glastonbury, Summersonic, and various late night TV shows) while receiving accolades, adoration, and even a few imitators. What many outside of Dallas are unaware of is the band’s annual Holiday Extravaganza, now in it’s tenth year. To celebrate the band will finally release their first volume of holiday songs, titled Holidaydream, the group’s first full-length release since 2007’s The Fragile Army.Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Volume One is not your typical, by-the-numbers holiday collection. The music within is magical, otherworldly, and at times somber. The songs captivate as they float by. A few of the songs have alternate melodies and truncated lyrics but maintain the timelessness and sentimentality of the song. With Holidaydream, Polyphonic Spree sought to channel the holiday season’s full range of moods, from joyous to melancholy. Arrangements are twisted, like on the spacey, shape-shifting “Do You Hear What I Hear” and “Silver Bells” (featuring School of Seven Bells), and melodies are morphed, as on an ethereal “Winter Wonderland,” but the spirit of the holidays remains firmly intact. Built to Spill: There’s Nothing Wrong with Love 30th Anniversary Tour

etix Built 474521719906077

This Event is 21 and Up   The Boise, Idaho-based indie rock band Built to Spill meet in the middle ground between postmodern, Pavement-style pop and the loose, spacious jamming of Neil Young. The group is a vehicle for singer/songwriter/guitarist Doug Martsch, who — heavily inspired by Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis — helped keep the concept of the indie guitar hero alive. On record, Martsch the arranger crafted intricate, artfully knotted tangles of guitar; in concert, his rough-edged soloing heroics earned Built to Spill a reputation as an exciting and unpredictable live act. Their early records betrayed some punk scrappiness around the edges, but as Martsch’s songwriting matured, he was able to crank out complicated, emotionally wracked songs that melted hearts as easily as they did speakers. The artistic success of 1994’s There’s Nothing Wrong with Love led to the band signing a deal with Warner Bros., where they released a string of albums highlighted by alt-rock classics Perfect from Now On and Keep It Like a Secret. As the ’90s receded in the rearview mirror, the band kept going strong. Through numerous lineup changes and a shifting musical landscape, Martsch stayed true to his roots, and records like 2015’s Untethered Moon and 2022’s When the Wind Forgets Your Name sound remarkably similar to early works, only with an added element of maturity.   Listed ticket price is inclusive of all online fees. All sales are final, please review before purchasing.
