The Daryl Rowland Blues All-Stars came together over a shared love of American roots music like blues, jump, jazz and swing. The band concept is simple: play it like you mean it and never play it the same way twice.

Combining original songs with thoughtfully curated blues pearls from the canon from artists like Jimmy Reed, Slim Harpo or Albert King, the band focuses on taking a fresh approach to each tune and ideally, surprising themselves and the audience.

Daryl, who cut his teeth in NYC’s blues scene, was described by LA Blues great, JJ BadBoy Jones as “The Mose Allison of guitar,” noting his soulful jazzy blues riffs and witty lyrics. But by the second set, his playing can gather Albert Collins/Duane Allman sort of intensity that fires up the band and audience.

Carrie McNabb on keyboards is a veteran of the Sacramento music scene and digs deep with a style that draws on the legacies of blues greats like Otis Span, Johnnie Johnson and Booker T.

Bassist and vocalist Laura Sterner delivers the tasty thunder from down under, responding effortlessly as the surprises unfold and locking into a solid groove every time with Sacramento’s top roots drummer, Ratatat Pat.

Their mantra: “put the notes where they want to go, then shut up.”
