Alabama Mike & The Revelators

“We’ll be saying more about this in the weeks to come, but we’re pleased and proud to announce our first Little Village release of 2023: Alabama Mike’s Stuff I’ve Been Through, due out May 12.  Produced by Christoffer “Kid” Andersen at Greaseland in San Jose, the album shows unabashed candor, beginning with the survivor’s tale of the title cut.

Alabama Mike (Michael Benjamin) recounts life’s missteps and emerges battered with the knowledge that a higher power pulled him through. Featuring Alabama Mike at his most outspoken, It weaves from old-school Southern soul to straight-ahead blues to the earthy street-funk and R&B gleaned from his blue-collar neighborhood of Richmond, California, where he has lived for the past 25 years. And, there’s a gospel power to this music that increases its intensity.

“My reality might be different, but that doesn’t make it wrong,” Mike says. “It just reflects me. As an artist, you have to know what you are, and more importantly, what you are not.”

Alabama Mike
In 1964, Alabama Mike was born Michael Benjamin in Talladega Alabama.  Early on, he was musically influenced by his father Joseph Benjamin who was a very talented tenor vocalist from whom he inherited that soulful, gospel drenched approach to his vocal style that has fans and supporters clamoring to see him and his band.
A stint in the US Navy brought him to Oakland Ca where he now resides. His early influences were ZZ Hill, Johnnie Taylor, Lightning Hopkins, Jimmy McCracklin and Junior Wells.

He has won various awards, the most recent The Muddy Waters Lifetime Achievement 2023 by the Jus’ Blues Music Awards Foundation. He also has been nominated by The Blues Foundation 2011 & 2014.
